Agáta Tichá and Zuzana Vepřeková – This Pearl Cannot Remain Hidden, curated by Jiří Kovanda, Galerie AVU, September 17 – October 19, 2024
The exhibition uses found materials from the Czech photo-sharing social network rajce.net as both research and construction material. As observers, the artists balance on the edge between childlike playfulness and seriousness, seeking connections to their own artistic practice.

“There is nothing more human than drawing a smiling face on a wall before it gets painted over in a single color. There is nothing more human than watching a cloud and recording every stage of its transformation before it dissolves.
Rajče.net is the largest Czech platform focused on sharing photos and videos. Most of the content on Rajče is publicly accessible — you can find anything from a ten-year-old album of a stranger’s graduation party to documentation of pebbles collected during a holiday. Most of the photos and albums on Rajče were not taken with any artistic intent. They are casual and sincere; meant for private use, preserving memories, showcasing obscure hobbies, or sharing travel snapshots and other moments with fellow Rajče users. And that’s exactly where their greatest quality lies.
Titles like “just because…”, “an attempt at…”, “boredom” and similar ones directly parallel the ordinariness of life — where the most interesting things are often hidden.
The exhibition, as the title suggests, aims to present to the audience pearls that have been found, turned over three times, and displayed. Their potential is realized by being given space in the gallery — to speak (or remain silent) for themselves or in context with other pearls.”
